ISMTII 2005 Invitation
The organising committee of the Seventh International Symposium on Measurement Technology and Intelligent Instruments (ISMTII2005) cordially welcome delegates from all over the world to this meeting in Huddersfield. Represented are many different cultures and backgrounds mirroring the wide relevance of the basic themes of metrology and instrumentation being presented at the Symposium.
The Symposium is to be held in Huddersfield from 6th to 8th of September 2005. It will be preceded by a seminar at which the history and internationally known researchers will, by means of their own background and development, indicate how the subjects have developed and will develop. We hope that the enthusiasm for the subject shown by the speakers will inspire the younger delegates attending the Symposium.
7th ISMTII2005 is organised by the Centre for Precision Technologies of the University of Huddersfield. A number of influential institutions have helped with the organisation, including the National Physical Laboratory, the University of Warwick, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, the International Committee on Measurements and Instrumentation (ICMI), the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council of the UK (EPSRC) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
Many papers have been received covering a wide range of subjects ranging from surface and nano metrology, sensors and intelligent instruments to uncertainty and the calibration of systems. There will be two plenary sessions and four keynote papers by international experts renowned for identifying and integrating new friends into theory and practice of precision measurement. In addition to the oral sessions there will be a poster presentation in which authors can communicate their latest research results.
Accepted peer reviewed papers will be published by the Institute of Physics in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series. A selected number of posters will also be included. The best set of papers will be published in a special issue of the International Journal on Measurement Science and Technology.
A number of well-known companies such as Taylor-Hobson Ltd, Renishaw Plc, etc. will display and demonstrate relevant instruments. The organisers have ensured that there is a balance between academia and industry to disseminate modern advances to students and researchers as well as presenting the implementation of new ideas into industry. Meeting together on a friendly and informal basis will provide the atmosphere for achieving these goals.
The Symposium will be held in Huddersfield which is in the heart of the Yorkshire Moors. Huddersfield is renowned not only for its beautiful surroundings but also for the friendliness of its inhabitants. During the Industrial Revolution in England it was a centre for textile manufacture and numerous cottage industries. Parts of textile mills are still visible today. In fact the University of Huddersfield has made use of some mill buildings. These link together the old and the new in harmony which is the target of the University of Huddersfield. Retaining some old discipline such as mechanical engineers yet pushing forward into new technologies such as nanometrology embodies the sprit of Huddersfield University.
We look forward to meeting you at ISMTII 2005 in Huddersfield!
